About

ARTIST BIO:
For more than 20 years Shawn Hricz worked in Hollywood as an award-winning artist in the motion picture and television industry.
Now he resides on the island of Manhattan in New York City, where he visualizes and creates in oils. His thick and layered brush strokes of the figure are reminiscent and inspired by that of Lucian Feud and the London School. Setting the three dimensional figure on top of a loose and blurred background of dancing colors. This juxtaposition of visuals bring your eye, focus and emotions to the central figure of the portraiture. The vivid pallet and an absence of black, together with a nod to the London School have created a modern impressionism. Tactile, vibrant, and today.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
"Standing in front of Picasso’s Guernica for the first time—when I was just a boy—moved and changed me. I saw that a visual image had the power to excite the soul and awaken an awareness through far more than beauty alone. Equipped with this realization, I then knew that a creative path of a similar kind would be the one I would follow.
In my work I found that beauty and emotion can be joined to enhance and visualize a story. My art is a celebration of my life and the individuals who have made it a better one. The figurative portraitures I create are each unique with an deep and inner message. I achieve this through bold brush strokes, thick layered colors onto of one another and an impressionist looseness. Through this creative process I hope my work will convey and connect us through our mutual journey of life.
